Adding Schemas for Richer Search Results

Posted June 8, 2011

Following up on an old SEM tip regarding Google’s Rich Snippets, the search engine giant, along with Bing and Yahoo! announced that they have made a joint alliance of schema.org. The alliance aims to provide richer search results for users surfing the web by providing a universal set of rules for webmasters to follow. The overall premise is that webmasters can markup their HTML (web pages) with microdata primarily using the “itemprop” tag that is now recognized by all search engines. Some commonly used schemas are reviews, events, recipes, places, organizations, products, restaurants and more. Use these schemas to markup these types of pages on your website so your site's SERP listings stand out among your competitors. Contact your SEO team if you have any questions on adding this microdata to your website.
