Consider a Sub-Domain Strategy

Many websites benefit in SEO by designating sections of their content to sub-domains. Sub-domains are domains that are part of a larger domain. For instance "realestate" is the sub-domain of realestate.about.com. Search engines recognize the keyword phrase "real estate" in the domain structure, which can help About.com rank on real estate-related search queries. Also, sub-domains allow your site to take up more real estate on the search engine results page, since Google's rule of two listings maximum per domain does not pertain to sub-domains being part of the larger domain. If your site holds a vast array of content, consider creating sub-domains for the different types of content you provide. Work with your Web Development and Search teams to analyze your site's potential for a sub-domain strategy.
