In order to ensure that search engine spiders are pulling the most relevant posts to users’ queries, Google must fine-tune their search algorithm regularly. One of the most recent updates they made in February was to discredit websites with “low levels of original content.” According to Google’s announcement, they were mostly referring to content farms, although they wouldn’t confirm. Content farms are websites that distribute content that has been reused or copied from other sites. Most users will not notice the change in search results; however, website owners may see their websites go up or down in the rankings. There are several syndication techniques that web owners can employ in response to Google’s content farm algorithm update. First, it’s always important to link back to your website in your content. This way the content always drives traffic back to the original source if it is shared and when search engines crawl your content syndicated on other sites, they will find the link back to your site, which helps them credit your site as the originating source. Secondly, make sure you are creating compelling, original content and diversify. If it is great content, then it will more likely be syndicated, which will produce more organic backlinks and rank higher in search engines. Don’t focus only on Google; make sure you are spreading your content on social media sites, Bing and YouTube.
