Optimize SEO Reporting

Posted October 26, 2009

Gaining a full understanding of your site's performance in natural search requires sound reporting. You should be measuring SEO performance by using two metrics: Visibility and Traffic. Visibility measures how often your site ranks on a set or target keyphrases in the three major search properties: Google, Yahoo!, and Bing. The idea is that higher visibility will drive increased traffic to the site. Traffic analysis requires a web analytics platform like Google Analytics or Omniture to understand which search referral keywords are driving traffic and which are converting users. Medaling these two metrics is key to measuring the success your SEO efforts and will help guide your overall strategy. Measuring and reporting is just one part of the SEO Lifecycle and should be taken very seriously.
