Test Your Links Before Publishing

Posted February 22, 2010

I come across a lot of broken links while I am online. Whether it's a link from Twitter, Facebook, an email, a press release, a blog post, or a PPC ad, it’s frustrating as a user and it's bad news for the marketer. It's somewhat ironic because the consequences of a broken link far outweigh the simple task of ensuring the link resolves. Typically, there were dedicated resources or dollars spent on generating the messaging with the link and creating the content in which the link points to. Some typical reasons for broken link are when analytics tracking is incorrectly added to the link or the page has been moved and not properly redirected. It’s smart to get in the habit of testing every link before you publish it - it will ensure your time and money spent developing and promoting your content is paying off.
