Target Long Tail Keywords

Posted February 23, 2011

As you develop your keyword strategy, try targeting long tail keywords. Long tail keywords are phrases that are three to four words long as opposed to more generic or head terms that are only one to two. For example, if your website is marketing “patio furniture,” then try targeting more long tail keywords such as, “patio furniture care” or “patio furniture delivery services.” If you’re trying to market to a local audience, add the location to the long tail keyword such as, “boston patio furniture care.” The long tail keywords are less competitive than the more generic keyphrases and less expensive if you’re bidding on them for PPC. Google Instant has also had an influence on long tail searches as it offers long tail keyword suggestions for search queries. Targeting long tail keywords will help you gain visibility on organic search results faster and drive more qualified leads to your website.
