Are you a Google Adwords advertiser? Did you know that "on average, ads that appear above the search results, also known as "premium positions," tend to get substantially more clicks than ads that appear on the right-hand side," according to Google's Chief Economist, Hal Varian. Don’t believe it? Check out the new Top vs. Side data in your Google AdWords account! Released on July 13th, the new reporting method gives advertisers the ability to see how ad location impacts the success of their ads. Prior to the release of this data, AdWords reporting provided all of the standard metrics, including impressions, clicks, CTR, and conversion rates, but did not present the option to view separate figures for both the top and side placement of the ads. To view the data, log in to your AdWords account and click on the campaign where you wish to view the data. Then click on the “segment” option, located just below the “campaign” tab. There you will find the option to view the top vs. side data. If you have any questions regarding Top vs. Side reporting, contact your PPC Management team.
