Background:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay has a well-defined mission: promote the healthy development of children through the nurturing of continuing, one-to-one friendships with caring, responsible adults, supported by trained professional staff.
Need:
To support their nonprofit mission, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay needed a new website with user-friendly navigation, improved design, and updated technology.
Solution:
During discussions with Big Brothers Big Sisters, we learned visitors used their site to do one of three things: donate money, recommend a child for the program, or volunteer as a Big Brother or Big Sister. With this knowledge, our team framed the user experience around those three objectives, complete with web-based applications to handle child referrals, volunteer requests and donations. We also updated the website's look and feel, using warmer images and a friendly Flash intro.
Results:
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay collected roughly $20 in online donations during the six months prior to the launch of their new site. During the six months after site launch the amount in online donations jumped to $40,000! In the 60 days following the new website's launch, users averaged 56% more pages per visit, spent 14% more time on the site and were 29% less likely to leave immediately after entering.

We're very pleased with our new web site both in terms of its appearance and its functionality. We're particularly impressed with the underlying Ektron content management system which greatly simplifies the task of keeping the site up to date.
