In May, the European Union will begin enforcing penalties under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). The penalties for non-compliance can be severe - up to 4% of your company's annual revenue or €20 million. While European companies have had this on their radar for a long time, American companies have been a little slower to recognize that the regulation actually has global impact. It applies not only to any company located in the EU, but also to those that collect or process personal data of any individuals located in the EU. This means that if your application collects any personal data, and any of its users may be in Europe, you've got to have a plan for the GDPR.
